Our signature services

What happens when my business misses a call?

An AI Voice Agent can greet the caller, answer the routine questions you have approved and guide them toward an appointment or your team. We start by documenting what should happen while you are serving a customer, after hours and when a caller needs a person. The agreed call flow and integrations determine what your agent can actually do.

Can I hear the agent before choosing a service?

Yes. Open our voice demo and talk with Kate, SMA’s AI assistant. Ask about our services and listen to the experience. The public demo uses SMA’s knowledge; it does not automatically learn your company from a website address. A walkthrough with David is where we discuss your own calls, services and booking rules.

What would VedaKosa change in my day-to-day work?

VedaKosa is your private AI assistant on its own computer. It works 24/7 with the email, calendar, commitments and tools you authorize, remembering your business context. We agree access, action approvals and workflows with you, then teach your team how to use and maintain the system.

Why are you focused on a small group of VedaKosa clients?

Our aim is to build VedaKosa systems with about ten customer businesses, giving each implementation direct founder attention. That is a working model, not a claim about how many places are left. David will discuss your needs and current availability on a call.

Can I hire SMA only for SEO or AI search visibility?

Our signature services are AI Voice Agents and VedaKosa, your private AI assistant. AI Visibility is also available independently, with a free assessment, a 30-day roadmap and DIY, 30-day done-for-you or extended 90-day options. Our free resources help you make a useful start.

Where should I start if I want to do the work myself?

Start with our free marketing guide and LocalPromoVault, or explore The Next Level community on Skool. Pick one problem, try one useful action and review what changed. You do not need to buy an SMA service to use the resources. If you later want help building an AI front desk or VedaKosa system, talk with David.

Calls, handoffs & your first meeting

How will an agent know when to hand a caller to a person?

We define the exceptions before launch: a question outside the approved knowledge, a caller asking for a person, a sensitive situation or a request the agent cannot complete. The handoff depends on the phone system and workflow in the agreed scope. We test those cases rather than asking the agent to guess.

What information should I prepare before a voice-agent walkthrough?

Bring your most common caller questions, service area, business hours, appointment types and any rules about who should be booked. One example of a missed call or a confusing handoff is especially useful. You do not need to send customer records or prepare a technical specification.

Will Kate book my appointment just because I ask about it?

The website’s Book a call button opens David’s calendar so you can choose a time and complete the booking. Asking a question or opening the calendar does not create an appointment. Use the confirmation from the booking system to verify that your time is reserved.

Can I meet with David on the weekend?

Appointments are Monday through Friday, with no Saturday or Sunday working appointments. The calendar displays times in your selected time zone, so a late Friday appointment in Eastern time can appear on Saturday in another country. Check the time zone shown before confirming.

About SMA

What is Strategic Marketing Advisors?

We’re a veteran-owned business and marketing consultancy helping companies get and keep more profitable customers through high-impact, low-cost strategies. Today our signature services are AI Voice Agents and VedaKosa. Our experience includes Fortune 500 marketing, 23 years of Air Force service and businesses we started ourselves.

Who runs the firm?

A husband-and-wife team, Mary and David Scarborough. Mary is a former Fortune 500 marketing executive, founder of two small businesses and Certified Guerrilla Marketing Coach with a master’s in marketing from Johns Hopkins. David served 23 years as a U.S. Air Force officer and aviator, taught business at Charleston Southern University and holds an MBA from Golden Gate University. Their published work includes three Entrepreneur Press books.

What does “veteran-owned” actually mean for me as a client?

David’s 23 years as an Air Force officer and aviator inform how we work: define the objective, build the plan and follow through. You get straight talk, honest counsel and clear responsibility throughout the engagement.

What do you mean by “experience, not theory”?

We ground our advice in practical experience in businesses, marketing and leadership. We help you apply a plan to the way your business works, rather than leaving you with a strategy deck and no next step.

What are the principles behind your work?

Use practical methods; transfer skills instead of creating dependency; measure what matters to the business; own the work; execute with discipline; and look for high impact without unnecessary expense.

How we work

What does a typical engagement look like?

Discover your business and numbers, diagnose the constraints, build a focused strategy, execute the agreed work, review progress and transfer the playbook and skills to your team. The exact scope and review schedule are set in your proposal.

Will my team learn to run this ourselves?

Yes. Knowledge transfer is part of the approach. We help your team understand the system, its responsibilities and how to maintain the agreed workflows, with ongoing support defined in the engagement.

What metrics do you track?

Useful business measures such as revenue impact, lead quality, customer acquisition cost and lifetime value. For an AI front desk or workflow we also agree relevant operating measures, such as answered inquiries, booking handoffs and follow-up completion.

What size businesses do you work with?

We focus on home-service business owners, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical and roofing contractors. These are businesses where missed calls, slow follow-up and scattered information can cost opportunities. We work remotely nationwide; other owners can talk with David about fit.

Do you work with clients remotely?

Yes. Founded in 2004, SMA is intentionally home-based and remote-first. We work with businesses nationwide from Cashiers, North Carolina. We do not operate a public customer-facing office. Occasional local visits are arranged individually. Meetings are Monday through Friday, with no weekend appointments.

Consulting & engagement

What is executive business consulting with SMA?

We work with leadership to clarify strategy, positioning and decisions. That consulting experience supports the way we plan and implement AI Voice Agents and VedaKosa: a practical advisor who understands both the business goal and the work needed to get there.

Do you require long-term contracts?

No. We earn the relationship through the work. Your proposal sets out the scope, fees, review points and any support or cancellation terms so you can understand the commitment before starting.

What makes your consulting different from a strategy deck?

We help you put the plan to work. We combine marketing leadership, military service and entrepreneurship to test priorities against your real business. If something is not working, we discuss why and what to do next.

AI Visibility: SEO, AEO & local search

How is SEO different from paid traffic?

Paid traffic depends on advertising spend. SEO improves the information and website foundations that help people discover you organically. Our AI Visibility service starts with a free assessment and a 30-day roadmap, with DIY, 30-day done-for-you and extended 90-day options. You do not need to buy another SMA service.

What does the AI Visibility Assessment cover?

The assessment reviews AI data signals, website access and indexing, reputation strength and business information accuracy. You receive a report and a prioritized 30-day roadmap. Choose to implement it yourself or ask SMA about the 30-day or extended 90-day program.

How long does SEO take to show results?

There is no fixed timeline. Search engines need time to recrawl changes, and meaningful progress can take months depending on the starting point and competition. We review evidence over time rather than guarantee a ranking or AI answer placement.

AI software & automation

What is AI software and automation for my business?

In VedaKosa, we focus on the repetitive work and information handoffs that are worth improving in your own business. This can include agreed CRM and follow-up workflows. It is part of the system we build with you, rather than a separate menu of tools.

Do I need technical knowledge to use these tools?

No. We help choose a usable approach, handle the agreed setup and show your team how it works. You stay involved in the decisions, information and approvals that matter.

Will AI replace the human touch in my marketing?

The goal is to give routine tasks a reliable first response while keeping people involved where judgment or personal attention is needed. You define the agent’s boundaries, escalation rules and review process with us.

How do you decide what to automate?

We map the workflow, identify repetitive tasks and choose a focused use case with a useful business benefit. We also plan the exceptions: what happens when the information is missing or a person needs to step in.

Let’s find the right first step.

Tell us where calls, follow-up or AI adoption are getting stuck. We’ll discuss whether AI Voice Agents or VedaKosa fit your business.

Meet with our team Monday–Friday. No weekend appointments.
